- Batch processing of citizenship interview
Days preceding the enactment of Welfare reform act, many immigrant seniors rushed to apply the U.S. citizenship. To make citizenship interview akin to community center environment, we negotiated with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and hosted batch processing of citizenship interview for immigrant seniors. The INS examiners came to a local church in Flushing, and they interviewed in batches one hundred immigrant seniors every day for ten days. In this setting, percentage of passing the interview was high, and in case of Korean immigrant seniors over 70 percent of those who took the interview passed.

- Advocacy
Many immigrant seniors lost their benefits and services after the enactment of Welfare Reform Act. Working together with New York Immigration Coalition, Asian American Federation and American Association of the Former USSR, we participated in rallies and petition drives, and we also lobbied for the restoration of benefits and services for the immigrant seniors. We made our presence known at the Capitol Hill, New York State Albany Legislators, and the office of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
